The Jacksonville Chamber Brass Players |

The
Jacksonville Chamber Brass Players was organized in October, 2007. Previously,
in 1980, the University of North Florida Brass Quintet was organized as
the university’s first instrumental ensemble. That group became
a professional ensemble following its triumphful performance at Yale University.
The UNF Brass Quintet then became the River City Brass Quintet, but because
of a name dispute, the St. Johns River City Band requested exclusive use
of the name. Since the River City Brass Quintet was already operating
the, officers of the St. Johns River City Band decided to permit the River
City Brass Quintet to represent the St. Johns River City Band as its chamber
brass ensemble. In January 1995 another quintet was organized as Gabriel’s Brass. That group became an ensemble in residence at the Bethel Baptist Institutional Church in downtown Jacksonville. Gabriel’s Brass operated for over ten years until it was absorbed into the church’s ”orchestra”. It was on the heels of Gabriel’s Brass that the Jacksonville Chamber Brass Players were organized. The group is proud to have among its members Lenard Bowie and Logan Lively on trumpets, Shawn Hanlon, horn, Karl Koppenberger, trombone and Lew Moore, tuba. It is hastily acknowledged that each of the five ensembles have retained several of its members. Of this group, Bowie, Koppenberger and Moore have performed in ensembles previously discussed. This provides a core of experienced professionals with two extremely talented neophytes. Jacksonville Chamber Brass Players is available to fill most of your musical performance needs.
